Schafer, Barbara Mae (Barb) age 87 of Canton OH passed away peacefully in hospice following a brief illness. Barbara was born in Burlington, Iowa to Clarence T. Johnson and Viola M. Johnson (Shepherd) on December 27, 1933. Barb was a graduate of Sperry High School, class of 1952 and recently attended her 67th reunion. Barbara was a homemaker until the children were older, then worked for City News, the Holmes Seed Co and the McKinley Eagles most recently as a bartender. She was also a member of the McKinley Aerie #2370 for many years. She loved to play bridge and played with the same group of friends for over 40 years. More recently Barbara enjoyed visits from her family and beating the grandchildren in 500 Rummy. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her infant brother Delbert Johnson, her son Matthew Schafer and her granddaughter Tami Bossart. Barbara is survived by her children; Pamela (Kim Visher) Schafer, Stanley (Kathye) Schafer, Daniel (Delores) Schafer and Janette (Adam) Tomkowski. Her grandchildren; Tina (Jack Sumney) Bossart, Tiffany (Travis) Woods, Heidi Zagorski, Brandy Zagorski, Kristina Yacko, Janelle (James) Kelly, Kelly Heath and Adam Tomkowski; 11 great grandchildren Kayla Bossart, Braden Bossart, Roman Woods, Brock Woods, Xavier Woods, Amber Bossart, Abigail Bossart, Annabelle Bossart, Alyssa Spracklin, Zoey Kelly and Lucas Heath. And her constant companion Baby, her loving cat who will greatly miss her. There will be a gathering of friends and family on Thursday, May 20th from 10 am to noon in the Schneeberger Funeral Home, followed by a private family service.
