Doris Hunter Mauck Obituary (1925

NEW MEMORIAL SERVICE DATE--Saturday May 18, 2019 at 2 pm AT COPELAND OAKS RETIREMENT CENTER CHAPEL Doris Hunter Mauck, age 93, resident of Copeland Oaks Retirement Center in Sebring, Ohio passed away Monday, December 10, 2018. She was born on August 26, 1925 to Clarence and Wave Hunter in Delaware, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband (Donald McKay Mauck) of 57 years and brother Harold Hunter. She is survived by three daughters, Marilyn West (Gregory); Martha Hunter, Nancy Barker (Charles); grandchildren Michael Barker, Kevin West (Toby); Jennifer West Ponciano (Juan), and Jeffrey Morrison (Alana); great-grandchildren Lincoln and Breckyn (West); brother Robert Hunter and many nieces and nephews. Doris (Dodie) earned her Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University and taught English for several years in Delaware, Ohio. Her love of literature, poetry, and Shakespeare carried with her throughout her life. She worked and volunteered in many different libraries and read a book a week. Music enriched her life through her piano accompaniment for many programs and an enjoyment of classical music, especially Mozart. With her husband, Don, Doris supported local drama and enjoyed theater productions in locales as diverse as Delaware, Stratford-upon-Avon, London and Oberammergau. Don and Doris also enjoyed summers at their Lake Huron cottage where they hosted many friends and family--with walks on the beach, a cozy fire and good conversation, chilly swims in the lake, Mackinac Island fudge, and stargazing the northern skies. Her life at Copeland Oaks was filled with hosting table-games (Rummikub was a favorite), participating in the educational opportunities at Copeland and in the community, and enjoying her many cherished relationships with family and friends of all ages and in many places. Doris was a member of Union Avenue United Methodist Church, Alliance, Ohio, and supported many social justice charities close to her heart. A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, May 18, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at Copeland Oaks Retirement Center Chapel, 800 S. 15th Street, Sebring, Ohio 44672. Reception to follow service. Interment at Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware, OH will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions suggested to Copeland Oaks Life Care Fund, c/o The Oaks Foundation, 715 S.
