Ernest G. Blair Sr., age 94, of Canton passed away early Monday morning, December 13th 2021 peacefully in his sleep at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital. He was born on October 30th 1927 in Clarksburg, West Virginia, son of the late Charles A. Blair Sr. and Minnie E. Burns Blair. He was also preceded in death by his 2 sisters Cora Isabella and Louise B. Fazio Boocks, and brother Arthur Blair. After finishing school in Clarksburg, he went to the U.S. Army and was stationed in Europe during World War II. After returning from the war, he married Garnet Elizabeth (Bess) Long Blair, also of Clarksburg on November 1948, and they were married for 56 years before she was called back to the Lord in 2004. He came to Canton shortly after his marriage and called it home. He worked for Drop Forge, Diebold, etc., then found a job at Superior Switchboard and worked there for over 20 years before retiring. He loved baseball especially the Indians and never missed a game and his second love was PGA golf. He also loved gardening and the outdoors and spending time with the family. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and James Howell of Stanley North Carolina and 2 sons and daughters-in-law Ernest G. Blair Jr. and Elizabeth Blair and Charles and Evelyn Blair, all of Canton; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Honoring his wishes, he requested to be cremated and there will be no calling hours or service.
