Frederick A. Southwood

January 21, 1939 - May 17, 2018

Frederick A. Southwood age 79, passed away May 17, 2018 with his wife at his side, after a long battle with lung and heart disease. Fred was a 1957 graduate of Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963 aboard the USS Little Rock as a radioman. He received the distinguished “Honorman” award. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clement and Margaret Southwood; son-in-law, Bill Huntsman in October of 2017. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Judith “Judy” (Eberhart) Southwood; their son, Scott F. (Ginger) Southwood; grandson, Tyler; daughter, Lisa R. Huntsman; Grandsons, Adam (Sara) Huntsman and Jonathan Huntsman; granddaughter, Jennifer (Ashton) McKelley and great grandchildren, Adrianna, Jack and Ethan McKelley. Also survived by his sister, Marylou Cooper; cousin, Emmett Bratt; special sister-in-law, Carol Baker; nieces, Tami Parton and Tanya Burch; three great nephews and two great nieces. Fred was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Canton for nearly 60 years. He served as a Deacon, Head Usher Chairman and on the property committee as the resident locksmith. Fred was co-owner of Bierly-Litman Lock and Door Closures. He retired in 2004 due to failing health. Visitation will be Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 4-6 pm at Trinity United Church of Christ in Canton. Services will be Monday June 4, 2018 at 11 am in the church with Rev. Andrew Taylor Peck officiating and one hour of visitation before the service. Burial will follow in North Lawn Cemetery.
