Giuseppe "Joe" Filigno Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Giuseppe “Joe” Filigno passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the age of 81. While an aggressive lung cancer affected his life recently, prior to this he lived a rich and joyous life. Among Joe’s worldly passions were his family, gardening, and singing beautiful Italian songs. He was a member of the “I Gagliardi Italiani” singing group in Canton, Ohio for many years and also performed in his younger years in Italy. Many people have heard Joe’s passionate stories of singing in Italy and observed the deep and everlasting love he had for his entire family, particularly his wife, Sophie. Joe was the son of Giuseppina Giannini and Stefano Filigno, both deceased, and brother of Antonio Filigno, deceased. He emigrated from Roseto, Valfortore, Provincia di Foggia, Italy, in 1965 to Swansea Wales and then to America- Canton, Ohio- in 1969. He lived with his sister-in-law, Patricia Filigno, and brother, Antonio Filigno, who generously sent for him to join them in the US, a process that took 13 years. He married Sophie Ann Wilks in 1973 and has two sons , Stephen Filigno (daughter-in-law Lydia) and Joseph Filigno (daughter-in-law, Stephanie), and his namesake Grandson, Giuseppe Filigno. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Walter Wilks and sisters-in-law, Patricia Filigno, Maria Liznory Wilks, and Rita Wilks. He has a niece, Nicole Wilkes and her husband Frank Lucas and 2 nephews, Matthew Wilkes and Wally Wilks. Joe worked at an Italian restaurant in Wales for 4 years, in the US at Diebold for 5 years, and at Freshmark Sugardale for 30+ years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 11:30 am at Christ The Servant Parish. Monsignor Lewis Gaetano as celebrant. Burial will follow in North Lawn Cemetery.
