Harry served in the United States Air Force 1950-1954. He was a Military Policeman in the 55th/72nd Air Police Squadron, Ramey Air Force Base stationed in Puerto Rico during the Korean War. Harry and his family made their home in Wheeling, WV until 1966 when they moved to Michigan and Harry began working at the Ford Motor Company, Woodhaven, Michigan. Harry worked as a Welder Repair and a member in good standing of the UAW Local Union #387 International Union. Harry retired from the Ford Motor Company January 1, 1990. Harry was an athlete during his school years, participating in football, baseball, boxing and basketball. He was good at all of these sports, but enjoyed basketball the most. He began working at a young age to help support his family during the depression years, and was never without a job. He was a hard worker, good provider and loved and cared for all of his and his wife’s family. Most importantly Harry loved his wife, Doris of 67 years and was committed to her and his family and always faithful to their marriage vows. Harry enjoyed many activities with his wife, Doris, including bowling and dancing, they even won a polka dancing contest once! His hobby was wood working taught to him by his Uncle Gerald Burkhead. He remodeled, repaired and could fix anything! He was always available as a helping hand, an advisor or to just listen. He had a heart larger than life! He loved his wife, daughters and their families and put up with all the different animals they brought to his doorstep throughout the years. Aside from his family, his favorite thing in life was interacting with people, being outside and just talking to others. He loved life and was in no hurry to leave it, proving that by beating lung cancer at the age of 92! Our family wants to give special thanks to those who provided loving care, smiles and laughter to our dad: Dr. Julie Oberly, Dr. Norman Rafique and his Physician Assistant, Julie, Mercy Hospital Staff and the Hospice Staff at Mercy Hospital. Friends and Family will be received at the Schneeberger Funeral Home, 2222 Fulton Rd. NW, Canton, OH 44709 on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, from 10 am-12 Noon with services beginning at 12 Noon. Burial with military honors will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, OH 44273. Masks required at cemetery, and family requests masks to be worn and caution be used in respect to the spread of the coronavirus at the funeral home.
