Joseph Aquilo

Joseph Aquilo age 94, of Canton, Ohio, died peacefully at his home on May 4, 2021. He was born August 15, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, one of nine children and lived in the Alliance and Canton, Ohio, area his entire life. Joseph enlisted in the Navy in high school then later returned to graduate from Alliance High School. Joseph “Joe” loved the outdoors and spent years as scoutmaster of Explorer Post 56 located in the Beechwood area of Alliance, Ohio. He taught his family and the young men in the Explorers the joy of fishing in Canada, winter and summer camping and sailboating. Mr. Aquilo worked years for the Edward R. Hart Company in Canton selling building materials. He went into business for himself owning Aquilo’s Sohio Service in Alliance until selling the business in 1972. He continued in the automotive industry in service and sales for Kirk Singer VW, Helms VW and the Lavery Auto Family all in Alliance, Ohio. After retiring from sales Joe was employed by Canton City Schools Maintenance Department. Joe is survived by wife Carolyn Aquilo of Canton and her children, Rhonda Hobby and George Riddle. Also surviving are Joe’s children, Rebecca Aquilo of North Canton, Linda Grimes of Canton, Jim (Lynda) Aquilo of Sun City Center, Florida and John Aquilo of Greenville, South Carolina. Joe is also survived by sisters Linda (John) Canestraro, Norma Zamagias and Gloria Giordano and several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Antonia and Nicolina (Micketti) Aquilo; first wife, Jane E. (Snelling) Aquilo; two brothers, Dante and Ray Aquilo; three sisters, Jennie Polinori, Carmella Tzetzu, Mary Searfoss and several nieces and nephews. A private family viewing was held.
