Ralph D. Bittler

January 2, 1933 - July 9, 2021

Ralph D. Bittler went home to be with the Lord July 9th, 2021. He is the adopted son of Charles and Nellie Bittler. He is also the son of Frank and Helen Dergle. He is a graduate of Canton South High School, class of 1951. He was drafted in 1953 and proudly served his country in the US Army, and was deployed in the Korean War Conflict. He retired from LTV steel in 1980 and was a member of Steel Workers Local 1200. Ralph worked with the volunteers at the Canton VA clinic for 35+ years. He received the Presidential Citation from all of his work at the VA and the Veteran of the Year award in 1990. Ralph belonged to many organizations; American Legion Post #44, VFW Post # 693, 40 & 8 Voiture # 10, Army Navy Garrison #150, The Korean Conflict Veterans of America, 2nd Infantry Div Assoc. Inc and the Ninth Infantry Regiment- The Manchu Association. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marlene Bittler. He also leaves behind 3 children, Charles (Leslie) Bittler, Thomas (Janis) Bittler, Scott (Ana) Bittler. He also leaves behind 3 grandchildren, James Bittler, Richard Bittler, and Taylor Bittler, 2 step grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Servcies will be Wednesday at 6 pm in the Schneeberger Funeral Home. Calling hours are from 4-6 pm before the service. Burial service with military honors will be Thursday at 2 pm at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Please make any donations to the Open Door Baptist Church.
